"Black Mother" by Alprentice "Bunchy" Carter

The poem "Black Mother" was written by Alprentice "Bunchy" Carter, a West Coast Black Panther Party organiser and the head of the Black Panther Party's Southern California chapter.

In the poem, “Bunchy” addresses the pain of being aware of the history of the treatment of Black Mothers. A voice for all Black Men becoming aware of the heinous oppressions endured through the vessel of the Black Woman body, "Black Mother" invokes an apology to all Black Mothers and Black Women.
